Billing themselves as “New York based artist (or artists) dedicated to highlighting the hypocrisy and hilarity of human behavior through sarcasm and satire,” TrustoCorp is notorious for their faux products and parody street signs. Last night, ANIMAL was given the opportunity to document Trusto’s latest action — custom signage, ribbing Banksy.
“We love Banksy and love seeing his work go up in our hometown, but we can’t help but notice the irony of a multimillionaire doing rebellious street art,” TrustoCorp tells ANIMAL. “But hey, this is America and maybe we can be millionaire rebels one day too!”
Two signs went up — one in Williamsburg that reads “Bad Artists Imitate Great Artists Get Really Really Rich” and another in the East Village that said “Laugh Now But One Day I’ll Be So Rich That I Can Do Graffiti Wherever I Want.” Each sign is “sponsored” by different bank-themed institutions — “Citibanksy” and “Banksy of America.”
